On Saturday, Angela and I joined some of our fellow chapter members at Chapter V’s “Vampire Chili Bite”. This fun event consists of lots of good chili, brought by various members in the chapter cornbread and desserts to enjoy before or after donating blood through the onsite bloodmobile. Hinshaw’s in Auburn was once again our host and let us set up outside their shop. There were about 12 different chili’s, toppings, a variety of cornbread, several desserts, and hot coffee. There was a definite chill to the air but it was clear weather and perfect for enjoying several steaming bowls of chili – white, chicken, vegetarian, and traditional. We brought a batch of Angela’s chili and her family’s traditional dessert “Crud”. The chili went well but they really loved the Crud. Bud was the first to sample it and began telling everyone he saw to try it. Margaret did so and then stood guard over it so no one could take too much as she wanted it all to herself. Being used to it after all these years Angela had to try it again to see what all the fuss was about. It is a really nummy dessert and the secret to it is the same secret to almost any good dessert…butter! I did my part for the cause and donated a pint of blood (now in the 3-gallon club) then honored our chapter by getting a green bandage wrap. We stayed and chatted for about 3 hours but then had to depart so that we could go home and prepare to attend a retirement ceremony for one of my good friends out at McChord. It was a lot of fun and we’ll definitely be participating again next year!
Our first Chapter chili bite seemed to be a success. This is a good chapter, and we look forward to many more years of events such as these.
